A Valkyrie for your Biggest Dreams

Anyone who's ever Zoomed with me knows I have several heroes from books, shows & movies adorning the walls behind me. Most prominent is a print of artist Craig Drake's rendering* of Valkyrie, from Thor: Ragnarok.
It's a stunning piece, and captures the beauty, grace, and power of this character. In Thor: Ragnarok, Valkyrie's story is one of Purpose. Once upon a time, Valkyrie was part of a mighty sisterhood whose purpose was to defend Asgaard against the forces of evil. When we meet her in the film, however, she has lost her way. She's hiding out on garbage planet Sakaar, under the guise of "Scrapper 142," working for the Grandmaster and diving to the bottom of every bottle she finds. We learn she alone survived a bloody battle with Hela, in which her Valkyrie sisters were wiped out by the goddess of death.
Her current existence is one of depression, drink, and defeat. She knows she is capable of being mighty, but she has experienced a crushing failure. So now...she's just fucking around.
I know I'm describing a Marvel character based on Norse mythology and yet. Relatable, no?
Who among us hasn't failed? Who hasn't found themselves drowning in waves of unmet expectations, floundering for a life preserver or a helping hand? Who hasn't felt adrift in the doldrums of burnout, waiting for a stiff breeze to motivate us, to take us someplace new?
These feelings and experience come for all of us from time to time, as it turns out. So, yes. Valkyrie's story IS relatable.
Of course, that doesn't mean we're going to snap out of it by hijacking a spaceship, crashing it into the Bifrost and slaying demons (I mean, if you can I'm not going to stop you). But we can follow Valkyrie's lead in other ways.
Because the thing that truly calls her forward isn't the fight, or her sense of duty, or even the king to whom she is technically beholden.
What calls her forward--what plucks her out of the bottle, out of the doldrums, and has her stepping back into her warrior's armor and into her extraordinary power--is her innate, divine sense of Purpose.
There's a moment, in the final battle for Asgaard, when Valkyrie steps forward with armor on, cape flying, glowing sword in hand, and the fireworks from the ship behind her go off** and she moves with no less than pure swagger. She looks powerful, relaxed, ready, and, of course, ridiculously cool.
Relatable? No? What if it was? What would it feel like to stop fucking around, and walk through your world with the ease and power of your true Purpose?
This is the kind of inquiry that fills my heart with explosive fireworks and sets my soul on fire. I know that I am meant to challenge you with questions like this, to be with you as we dive into your values, face down your challenges, and explore your heart's desire. This is MY Purpose: to be a warrior, a champion, a Valkyrie for your biggest dreams, your wildest potential.
" I've spent years in a haze, trying to forget my past...
But I don't wanna forget. I can't turn away anymore." ~ Valkyrie
What calls you forward?

*Full disclosure: This piece was printed and framed for me as a gift, despite the fact that Marvel didn't approve the design for Craig Drake to sell. I have, however, purchased many pieces directly from him, both in an effort to make sure the creator of one of my favorite prints is well-compensated and because I just love his stuff and am happy to buy it.
**This was the point in the blog when I realized my descriptions from the movie likely sound foreign or ridiculous to anyone who hasn't seen it. Thanks for going with it and: watch the movie. It's fantastic.
